Microsoft Dynamics — Generate the Marks Template
In this step, you will log into the Microsoft Dynamics system and generate the official marks template (CSV) that you will use in the next step as the target file for your data.
Tutorial video
What you will do
- Log into Microsoft Dynamics
- Navigate to Import Historical Marks
- Select your school, department, semester, and programme
- Export the marks template as a CSV file
Step-by-step instructions
1. Open Microsoft Dynamics
- Log in to the Microsoft Dynamics (new system).
- From the main navigation, click Import Historical Marks.
2. Create a new import record
- Click Create New (or the "+" button).
3. Fill in your selection criteria
Select the correct values for each field:
| Field | Example value |
|---|---|
| School | School of Engineering |
| Department | Electrical |
| Semester | Semester 1, 2025/2026 |
| Programme | EN 200 |
In the School field, you can type "Engineering" to filter the list — then select the correct school from the dropdown.
4. Enter any value in the marks field
Enter any value in the marks entry field. This is just to unlock the export functionality — the actual value does not matter at this stage.
5. Export the template as CSV
- Click Export to CSV.
- The file is called the Marks Template.
- Save it and open it in Excel to verify the format.
You must use the template generated by the system itself. Microsoft Dynamics requires the CSV to be in the exact format it generates. Do not use a template from a different source or a different machine.
Next step
Proceed to Step 4 — Data Editing to merge the converted marks data into this template.
